Youtube is most worthwhile for picking up videos that you can’t find elsewhere.
Here are some areas that it has been useful:
1) teaching about life, attitudes and social climate in the 1950s for studies of genre and society or of historical readings of particular films. Try http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGnRgCC70RU “Choosing for happiness “ for attitudes to women and marriage, but there are lots of sites of old educational “Health Ed” movies and advertisement that are really great and deal with attitudes to sex, marriage, dating, women, roles in society etc.
2) Media Industry: Ownership and the new digital future: here’s a short clip that might stimulate some discussion about ownership of industry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uljvh9M0FH0 Movie Monkey and Our digital future
3) Media Industry: impact of sequels on the production of films in Hollywood: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JHhGyrXmng There are quite a few similar ones to this, and also quite a lot about The MPAA and the ratings of film.
